Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced that the Gemini app has surpassed 1 billion monthly active users, marking it as one of the company’s fastest-growing products and the 14th Google product to reach that milestone.

The growth places Gemini alongside OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which reached 1 billion monthly active users in June. Google has increasingly integrated Gemini across its ecosystem, including Search, Workspace, and Android, with the company’s separate AI Mode in Search also surpassing 1 billion monthly users globally.

Google highlighted usage patterns, noting that 63% of Gemini users engage with the assistant through voice, while the platform generates more than 150 million images daily. The app has also expanded beyond Google’s own ecosystem, surpassing 100 million active users on iOS.

The milestone follows Google’s Q2 2026 earnings call, during which the company reported more than 950 million monthly Gemini users, with daily active usage tripling over the past year. The announcement also comes amid continued rollout of new models, including Gemini 3.5 Flash, aimed at improving coding and autonomous AI-agent capabilities, and ahead of Google’s upcoming Made by Google event, where additional Gemini-powered features are expected across Pixel devices.
